Big Time Rush - BTR (2011) PORTABLE
The show received positive reviews from audiences and mixed reviews from critics.[25]The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette stated the show was "Nick's attempt at building a Jonas Brothers-style pop band. It's Nick's answer to Disney Channel's 'JONAS,' albeit slightly less organic since 'Rush' doesn't feature siblings."[26] The Hartford Courant stated the series a "not so good" show "with their thin pop and unfunny comedies".[27] The Boston Globe stated the show as "one example in a growing list of kid shows selling showbiz fantasies to children. The genre is stronger than ever now and more fixated on the perks of the glamorous Hollywood lifestyle ... wish fulfillment at a time when tabloid dreams are ubiquitous."[17] DVD Talk had the following review of the Big Time Rush: Season 1, Volume 1 DVD. "It would be hard to craft a description engineered to be less interesting to me, and yet, as I plowed through this collection from the series' beginnings, I frequently found myself amended and entertained. Say what you will about Nickelodeon's teen programming, but they've got the art of making a solid sitcom down to a science."[28]
Big Time Rush - BTR (2011)
In 2013 Nickelodeon renewed the Big Time Rush series for a 13-episode fourth season, production started on January 7. The band also released a song titled "Like Nobody's Around" which according to the premiere episode "Big Time Invasion" was outlining the history of professional, successful, and all-American boy bands; the Platters, the Temptations, the Jackson 5, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, and NSYNC, in response to the British invasion of rival act, and hugely successful One Direction. On April 15, in an interview on Cambio, Big Time Rush announced that their third studio album, 24/Seven would be released sometime in early June 2013 and that the fourth season of Big Time Rush was set to premiere on May 2, 2013. On April 18, Big Time Rush revealed that 24/Seven would be released on either June 4 or 11, 2013. On April 20, nine tracks from the album (plus "Song for You" without the Karmin vocals and "Get Up" with only Schmidt's vocals) were leaked. On June 4, EW released the full 10-song Standard version of 24/Seven online.[18] The Deluxe version of 24/Seven also leaked on YouTube along with a different version of the track "Love Me Again".
In 2013, after the end of the run of the Big Time Rush television series, the group members continued touring until March 2014 and later put the band on an indefinite hiatus, and went on to pursue solo careers. Schmidt stated at that time that they would like to come back together again as a band if they have an opportunity.[20] Kendall Schmidt later reformed the band Heffron Drive with Dustin Belt In May 2013.[21]
The group has been compared to other boy bands of the time such as One Direction and the Wanted.[32] Michael O'Connell from The Hollywood Reporter said "One Direction is but one group in this resilient and timeless fad. They follow the recent success of fellow Brits [the Wanted] and Nickelodeon's cross-market creation [Big Time Rush]. One [One Direction] is fluke. Two [the Wanted] is a coincidence. And three [Big Time Rush] is a trend that you want to father your unborn children.'[33] Melinda Newman from The Washington Post stated "In the grand tradition of boy bands, these acts share certain traits with their similarly manufactured pop ancestors: Members of the Wanted and Big Time Rush auditioned for their parts at a casting call. The members of One Direction were put together by Simon Cowell after trying out individually for the British edition of The X Factor."[32] However, she positively compared them to the Monkees by saying "Big Time Rush is similar to the Monkees with its own TV series as a launchpad, and the group appeals to kids, tweens, teens, and adults. They are also credited as the pop group that have once again restored creditably, relevance, and for relaunching boy bands back into the public eye once again."[32]
Jordin is an unbelievable singer. If you hear her sing in real life, she sounds just as good live every time. She absolutely deserves to be where she is. She's so talented, and she's a sweetheart too. We're on the same label. She wanted to get into acting, so we wrote an episode about her. She came on and was a great actress. The song is one of our first group ballads. It's a five-way ballad, but it turned out pretty cool. Usually, a duet has one person on each side. This has her voice one side and then there are our four voices on the other [Laughs]. It worked out though. It was such a pleasure to have Jordin on the song. She became a good friend of mine. She took me to the actual show before she was in it last time [Laughs]. She's so down-to-earth like that.[1]
The tour received positive praise from music critics. Many commented on their energetic performance and interaction with fans. At the Stanislaus County Fair, Deke Farrow (The Modesto Bee) writes it was the largest concert crowd at the fair. He goes on to say, "And outside the stage area, where there was no way they could see the band, little girls on their dads' shoulders looked just as thrilled as if they were in the front row. Experiencing a big-time rush indeed".[1]

Comprised of members Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Carlos PenaVega, and Logan Henderson, the band was created simultaneously with the Nickelodeon television series of the same name. The group released three studio albums, BTR (2010), Elevate (2011), and 24/seven (2013), before entering an indefinite hiatus in 2014. In the late 2010s, Big Time Rush purchased the rights to their name from Nickelodeon and Sony Music, and in 2021, they announced plans to reunite, releasing new music and resuming live performances.
Tortorella was later replaced by Carlos PenaVega, and Curtis by Curt Hansen.[3] In November 2008, the lineup of Hansen, Maslow, PenaVega, and Henderson filmed a series pilot in Los Angeles under the title Brand New Day.[5] Hansen was later replaced by Kendall Schmidt, whom Henderson had, coincidentally, previously met through "the friend group in LA" at a house party. He described the decision to pick Schmidt as "unanimous."[3] Following the first pilot, the title "Go Big Time" was pitched for the show, but on suggestion from PenaVega, Fellows took a liking to the name "Big Time Rush".[5] According to Henderson, the term "rush" is "a play on a hockey term", explaining "It's whenever you go for the goal and you rush; it's kind of like what we do with our group and then with the show it's kind of just go for it."[5]
